First American Bank & Trust is truly a part of Athens history. Founded in 1928 by J. H. Hubert, they first opened our doors at the corner of College and Broad Streets across from the University of Georgia Arches. In 1971, they acquired their current Main Office at 300 College Avenue, which was originally constructed in 1906 as the post office/federal courthouse. Their building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and was the first adaptive reuse of an historical structure in the Downtown Athens area.

On July 3, 1912, First Missouri State Bank was established under the name State Bank of Fisk. The street on which the bank was originally located was eventually named Third Street. In 1953 the bank was relocated to 300 Second Street. The Second Street building continues to serve as a branch office today. On October 10, 1986 the bank's name was changed to First Missouri State Bank, and on December 31, 1986 its main office was transferred to 1902 Sunset Drive, Poplar Bluff, MO. GREATER STATE BANK was founded in 1974 as a Federal Savings Bank to support growth in the town of Falfurrias by a group of likeminded businessmen wanting to provide quality banking services to their neighbors. The bank's initial expansion into Hebbronville in 1976 was soon after though would remain the only other location for the next 40 years. In 2007, they opened our first branch in the Rio Grande Valley and soon duplicated that effort in Weslaco along with transferring their charter to their McAllen location in late 2016.

The roots of Citizens Bank can be traced back to its origins in 1913, when Henry and Sallie Rankin acted on their belief that the Columbia area needed a bank that could be responsive to the financial needs of individuals and businesses in Marion County. Because of their vision, twenty-four original shareholders raised $35,000 in capital to form the Bank and in April of 1913, Citizens Bank opened for business. In the early years, customers were permitted to make deposits and cash checks at a local mercantile known as The Rankin Company, located in Columbia.
